DIY Smart Energy Management IoT Platform for Homes & Small Businesses

We built TripSwitch's IoT platform, a modular breaker-box device with a React Native companion app that gives homeowners real-time energy monitoring, breaker-level control, and scheduling to cut electricity bills by 10–15%.

The Problem

Homeowners and small businesses had no affordable, DIY way to monitor energy usage at the breaker level. Traditional smart solutions required electricians, were expensive to install, and lacked the granular control needed to drive meaningful savings.

The Solution

We built an end-to-end IoT platform: MQTT-based real-time communication between TripSwitch hardware and the Node.js backend on AWS, a React Native app for breaker-level control, circuit grouping, scheduling, and usage monitoring. MongoDB stores energy logs and device configurations. Users receive daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly consumption reports, targeting 10–15% electricity bill savings with sub-one-year device payback.
